Plan-Net are pleased to hear that a recent project for the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe has led to the successful roll out of a project to give every 6th form student the chance to own a new laptop. Varsha Kirby, ICT Manager at RGS tells us more;
"The Royal Grammar School started a Sixth form laptop scheme, where the school purchases laptops on behalf of students. The students pay the school on monthly basis for the laptops, which enable them to connect the laptops to the school's wireless network. We needed a solution where the students laptops could connect to the school's network without taking away the administrative rights of their laptops yet create a secure computing environment.
After attending one of Plan-Net's Virtualisation seminars I was impressed with the knowledge base of the speakers and I approached them to come to our school and talk about our impending project. The consultant who came to see us had a very good understanding of our requirements and suggested how we could proceed with the project.
We were thinking of using Virtual Desktops for this purpose but did not have expertise in setting up the system. Plan-net helped us complete this project. We as a school have benefited in putting this idea into practice in a short amount of time without having to worry about compromising the network security. As a result the students are benefiting enormously in having their own laptops.
Plan-net understands the demands of Educational Establishments, in terms of creating a secure but accessible computing environment for students and completing projects within tight dead lines."
